Hate comment of the year, haven't gotten one in awhile.. Just left anonymously on a very old post on the blog. #wow #nowords

That's...hilariously juvenile? Terrible (I'm sorry you got it!), but it also definitely seems like it comes straight from the bully at the playground.

Ignore mean people like that! You have the best blog and you are so nice to keep up with it the way that you do! I am on a research fellowship in Taipei and me and my entire cohort from the US ADORE your blog! We all talk about it and are so thankful that it exists. So, thank you for doing what you do and don't pay attention to rude, jealous people like this!!!

What a rude, ignorant, self indulged prick!!!

Time for that dude to stop teaching in buxiban and move back home.

You got the best TW foodie blog. Don't let those assholes upset you.

You have an awesome blog and I keep it as my go to whenever I visit Taipei. Forget about these bad sad people.

Wow, what a jerk!! I think this comment only says more about the commenter, who most likely is actually jealous of others who travel and who have different kind of experience than he or she does. I would not be surprised that this is a 15 yo going through puberty and feels that he or she does not fit in.

You have a great blog, keep up the great work.

Aww thank you guys for the support. I found the comment a bit confusing- are they accusing me of posing as an Asian American? And why does it offend them so much I'm from LA? It's so strange.

Wow, sorry that you received such a horrid post. Not all people are well and not all people take care of themselves.

However, I wanted to be sure you know that your posts are appreciated and helpful. (and coming from someone who lives in socal and goes to taiwan), your posts are always useful.

What?? I say ignore this incoherent and idiotic hater - who has time for this stuff? Sorry to see that you even got it but there are people out there envious of anyone else's success who will try to bring you down, and the worst thing you can do is to let it affect you since that will only encourage them. They probably even got excited to see you reposting their comment.

Your blog is fun and informative so don't let it get to you please.

I find it so offensive that he's insulting your Asian American heritage -- as an American Taiwanese myself I find that not only incredibly offensive but also disgustingly ignorant. I love your blog and I'm not saying it to be "supportive" -- I genuinely love all the recommendations you post and rely on it whenever I'm needing a quick bite in Taipei! Don't let people like this get to you and thank you for keeping up your blog all these years.

I'm very confused by what he posted, its very hard to understand all that nonsense he posted....maybe I'm not smart enough to decipher his wisdom

I congratulated you on your reward earlier from netflix Joan and I wanted to expand on it alittle. I moved to Taiwan from living in the United States for most of my life for work reasons and to be with my family after finishing up university. I remember how lost I was when I first arrived in Taipei years ago. I then found your blog and it was a godsend. I had no idea where to eat, how to order food, or if there were friendly places for people with limited chinese like myself. I'm very grateful for your blog and I've been recommending it expants that I meet in Taipei as well. It helped me through a very lonely period in my first couple months in Taipei. Thank you very much Joan. Please continue this blog for as long as you can.

Ugh, yuck. Hmm, no time to write a blog, but has time to visit blogs and write insults.

As others have said, keep up the good work! Your posts are thoughtful and I love seeing what is out there.

I believe this blog is being read by everyone in the world and not every single person in the world knows what LA is (i'll just read it as "luh", not L-A) so Joan is being considerate to spell it out word by word. That dude is the one being ignorant and the one acting all high and mighty.
The purpose of the blog is to share the love, not showing off. I'm very grateful to have found this blog which saves me lots of time from just researching on my own. Keep up the good work, Joan!

People have bad days and lash out in odd ways. I don't condone the same but there is clearly and issue and I'd suggest they reach out for some help. Love thy neighbor and forgive and perhaps they can find someone to help them through and obviously troubling time.

i love your blog. saves me a lot of time whenever i need to take friends or foreign colleagues out. or when i just need to find a place for a friday night.
and i love taiwan <3

Are you rich or just have no personal budgeting skills since you spend so much money eating out?

That comment was so rude and unnecessary. They don't have to read it if they don't like it. What does your race/ethnicity have to do with having an amazing food blog? I was introduced to it years ago by a friend when I was studying abroad in Taipei and I STILL read it after almost 8 years later. When I go back to visit I also use this website as a guide to find yummy places to eat. Please keep doing what you're doing, it's great and I love reading about new food places you explore!

Hahahahaha that hater has so much time on their hands! It's hilariously specific yet nonsensical. Hello, haters? Everyone loves food! And this food blog is awesome! Keep on blogging! You rock.

joanh said...

thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. I do read all of them, and take them to heart.

that person is just a troll - you should pay him/her no mind because your blog is awesome and an inspiration to a lot of people :) try not to let it get to you too much. it's a sign that what you do compare to him/her is just so much more worthwhile that some loser with a keyboard got jealous haha.

This is one of my favorite blogs, I always come here to check where to go, what's new in town. Foreigners that don't speak chinese have not many options and your blog is really helpful! So keep it up and let them go!

I may not agree with all your recommendations, but I appreciate the effort you put into your blog. Many of my expat friends use your site to find a decent bite in Taipei and that's great.
In the past, nut jobs, bigots and haters (sorry, for the sake of being P.C.: mentally challenged, segregationist, misanthropists) spew their misguided outbursts (sorry, "exercise their 1st amendment rights) locally, in public, or occasionally on the phone. Unfortunately, the internet now offers them a widespread medium to land their vitriol on anyone without fear.
So just as do what any sensible person does when you run into them in public. Ignore them. Move on. Don't take these attacks to heart. :)

Keep up the good work!

I think they just had a bad day? But for real, bitter much?

I read your blog whenever I'm hungry and in search of something new. Thanks for sharing your explorations.

I always say you must be doing something right when people start trolling (copying / suing) you! :)

I think he/she is just jealous of your talent... You have an awesome blog that helps(feeds) hungry people in Taipei! #XOXO #LOVE #KeepUpGoodWork

Wow what a nasty comment.

Every year a week before my annual trip to Taipei, I always go through a year of entries on your blog and note down where I'm going to eat for 3 weeks. Your blog is indispensable to me - keep it up!

Incredible! You can literally feel their insecurity/jealousy dripping through those nonsensical words. This person has an uncanny talent of creating a huge deal out of absolutely nothing. Also people definitely call LA Los Angeles. I would know I'm also from Los Angeles, babe.

This blog is amazing! Keep doing you!!! :) much love

My wife and I love your blog, and don't care if you are from LA or Los Angeles or some where else, the restaurants you introduce and review are great fun to read and try. Thanks for doing what you do

Trust me the one annoying aspect of the internet is that the anonymity allows pops to behave like a-holes. Don't mind what that person said although as someone who has dedicated a significant portion of your energy to blogging it may be difficult to shake the unwarranted criticism. At the same time the post was pretty incoherent and laced w jealousy from what I could gather.

I use your blog as the reference whenever I come back here to the motherland and have had some great food experiences as a result ! Keep it up and know you are contributing so much to the blogosphere!!!!

:)
