Thanksgiving is once again right around the corner, along with suddenly cold wintery weather and on and off again rainy grey Taipei days.
Here are some options for finding turkey to-go or a night out. This is all found online, so please call to verify for yourself if you are making plans.
Last year, I ended up trying the turkey at Robin's Teppanyaki at Grand Formosa Regent. It was pricey and gourmet- meaning good but small portions with salad and dessert bar. I'm leaning towards trying the traditional sounding fare at Shangri-la this year... plus it's a buffet, so I'll definitely leave full. They better have enough sweet potatoes!
What did you all do last year? Any recommendations for other hungry readers? Share, share!

What's the deal with the 11/22 only places? That must be something new this year. I mean, I understand you get more business on a Saturday, but come on, you can't let people have their Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving?!
We did not really like Dan Ryan's when we went for Thanksgiving one year.
OOPS! I just cut and pasted last year's info to this year.. I didn't have time to research all the places, but they are probably all 11/27 only instead of 11/22 only (last year's thanksgiving date). Thanks for pointing that out
Yeah I remember you saying that about Dan Ryan's so I will avoid!
So glad you posted Grandma Nitti's! They are the best casual American restaurant in town, big portions and real homemade taste. And no need to dress up as for the hotels. Also, for delicious holiday pies, try the affiliate shop, My Sweetie Pie bakery & cafe, newly opened right across the lane from Nitti's [#3 Lane 93, ShiDa Rd, 02-3365-3448]. They might have special prices on whole pies, call & ask.
anonymous: thanks! have you had their thanksgiving dinner before? i've been totally wanting to try it.
also, what kind of pies does My Sweetie Pie have?? :)
i mean grandma nitti's, not necessarily their thanksgiving food!

The International Trade Building (World Trade Center) has takeout - 6kg Turkey, gravy, vegetables for $2,500. With Pumpkin pie is $2,800. Pre-order is necessary. Their quality is usually pretty good and sounds like cheaper than Taipei hotels.
ray: thanks for the tip.
Anyone have an idea where to get a Taiwan-raised uncooked turkey? We've gotten imported frozen birds at Jasons and Costco in the past. This year I'd like try a local turkey if that's possible.
Everybody seems to figure they're available but no specifics about where to go yet.
for next year

Holy crap you did a whole lot of research last year for this info.
Tip of the hat to you, madame.
